Dentures: 3 Steps to a New Smile

A couple smiles | St. Paul MN Dentures

Modern dentures are one of the aspects of dentistry that has progressed dramatically in recent decades – both in their function and their appearance. The process for getting dentures in our Saint Paul dental office occurs in three easy steps.

Step One – Evaluation and Planning

As with all dental procedures, we will start with a full evaluation. This gives us the “big picture” view of your oral health, bone structure, and perhaps most importantly, you and your dentist will have a chance to discuss your goals for your smile.

We will take x-rays to look at bone levels and impressions to help your dentist plan for your dentures.

He will also go over the types of dentures we offer.

Immediate dentures – available on the same day as your dental extractions
Partial dentures – replace a few to many missing teeth (some natural teeth remain)
Complete dentures – replaces a full arch or both arches of teeth
Implant dentures – lock in place with four to six dental implants

Step Two – Creating Dentures

Have you thought about what color you would like your new smile to be? We match the shape and shade of your dentures to your facial structure, gender, and age to ensure a natural look.

We work closely with skilled, local dental laboratories to create dentures that look and feel great. Once we receive your dentures, we will have you come in for a series of fittings to make sure your dentures fit comfortably.

Step Three – Denture Maintenance

When you first receive your dentures, we will need to make sure that you wear them regularly to identify any areas that require adjustment. We also recommend that you bring your dentures to your regular dental exams so that we can examine them for any signs of damage or wear.
